The Role

In Viva, we are currently looking for a Backend Developer. 

The Backend Development team’s mission is to ensure Viva.com’s backend systems are robust, secure, and scalable. We focus on introducing new features and optimizing the codebase by integrating new tools, libraries, and architecture improvements that boost system performance, reduce technical debt, and enhance developer productivity—all while driving competitive advantages for our platform. As a Backend Developer, you’ll dive deep into complex projects, writing efficient, maintainable code, and solving challenging problems. You’ll be expected to work autonomously and in a team, contribute to and review pull requests, provide technical guidance to other developers, and actively participate in code refactoring efforts. Collaboration is key, so you’ll work closely with architects to shape system designs, product managers to align on business goals, and engineering leads to ensure delivery quality across the Technology Group. 

 

Responsibilities: 
 

  • Design, build, test, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architects, product managers, and other developers, to deliver robust and efficient solutions. 
  • Optimize and refactor code, ensuring the backend systems are secure, maintainable, and aligned with best practices. 
  • Research innovative technologies to find new and efficient ways to solve day-to-day challenges. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues, ensuring high availability, performance, and security across all backend services. 
  • Contribute to system architecture discussions, driving improvements in system design, scalability, and performance. 
  • Contribute in the implementation and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines to streamline deployments and ensure smooth integration of new features. 

Tech stack 

Our backend tech stack is based on .NET, leveraging the latest versions of .NET Core for building high-performance, scalable APIs and services. 

  • Over 2 years of proven experience as a Backend Developer with a strong focus on .NET;
  • Understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful API design, and distributed systems;
  • Experience with database technologies, particularly SQL Server, including writing complex queries and performance optimization;
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably Azure, and containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes;  
  • Familiarity with implementing CI/CD pipelines, ideally using Azure DevOps or similar tools;
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to debug, optimize, and troubleshoot complex backend systems;
  • Experience with code versioning tools, such as Git, and familiarity with branching strategies;
  • Good understanding of security best practices in backend development, including data protection, encryption, and authentication mechanisms;
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and mentor junior developers;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience) preferred but not required.

The team you’ll be a part of

You will join one of our most important tribes and lead one of the teams there. The Tribe currently consists of two teams with a total of 11 dedicated people. We need your help to find smart engineers to grow the new team to around 4-6 people. You will work closely with two existing teams working in a distributed and international setup, as well as the Director of tribe who will also be your direct leader.

The team develops and maintains, among other things, the customer and translator portal, the workflow orchestration engine, an internal API and much more. We moved the product to the cloud and want to move to API first and there’s a huge roadmap packed with great product ideas that will keep us busy for the years to come. Our team handles both the Frontend (written in JavaScript and Typescript) and several backend micro-services including the data persistence layer (created using .NET 5 and running on Kubernetes clusters in Azure).

You’ll report to our Director of engineering, and you’ll work closely with our Director of Technology and two other Team Leads within the Tribe.
