Byway is hiring a Remote Senior Product Designer

Company Description

We help people explore the world by travelling through it, not flying over it

We exist to make flight-free holidays seamless and personal from start to end. We help our customers love their journeys by train and boat, opening their eyes to a new way of holidaying in which they can experience the lesser-known parts of the world instead of flying over them. Byway is blazing a trail into a new travel ecosystem growing up around sustainable, authentic and conscious travel. We have certified as a B Corporation, which means we’re committed to building a business that’s a force for good.‍

We’re taking on climate change by building the first tech platform for flight-free holidays. We help people experience the joy of journeying through lesser-known parts of the UK and Europe by train, boat and bus.

Founded in March 2020, we’re backed by Innovate UK, and have raised £1.2M from incredible investors. Our organic growth has been significant and sustained since launch, mostly thanks to press, from the Times to the Guardian. Since January 2022, our first paid marketing investments and partnerships have seen revenues surge well beyond this organic base.

Job Description

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our founding team, building the world’s first platform for flight-free holidays.

As our first product/UX hire you’ll be responsible for our end-to-end user experience. You’ll ensure our customers love their journeys with us from first discovering their perfect trip on our site right through to arriving home at the end of their holiday: your impact will be direct and visible. You’ll report directly to our founder and CEO, Cat Jones, and collaborate closely with our CTO, Rich Levy, and our wider tech, ops and marketing teams.

Your key responsibilities

  • Drive product strategy and design simple, intuitive experiences that our customers love

  • Own the end-to-end user journey and all aspects of design execution, from ideation, through prototyping and user testing, to final production

  • Partner with marketing, operations, and tech teams to create great tech products and user experiences

  • Ability to balance quality standards with MVP testing strategies

Qualifications

What we’re looking for

  • Huge customer centricity

  • Significant product design experience within a digital environment (agency or in-house) for a tech/consumer brand

  • Sharp attention to detail and mastery over your craft, including visual design, interaction design, and prototyping

  • Experience designing and shipping impactful products at scale

  • Experience producing data-informed, measurably effective UX by leveraging customer insights, A/B testing and personalisation

  • An ability to bring simplicity to complex concepts for our customers

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

What would be great (but isn’t required)

  • Experience in a high growth startup

  • Experience designing and maintaining a cross-platform design system

  • Agile experience, working in sprints with backlogs and feature sets

Additional Information

What we offer

  • £65,000 - £75,000 p.a. (depending on experience) plus equity

  • Remote-first, flexible working with ~2 days/month in London

  • High specific laptop & tools

  • Annual ‘Byway Away’ days

Join a travel startup in 2022! Are you crazy?

Covid lockdowns saw a total shutdown of air travel, and opened people’s eyes to the environmental bounce-back possible when flights are grounded. At the same time, people have had to slow down and reconnect with their local areas as never before - and  the importance of supporting local businesses has become clearer than ever. Emerging from lockdown, sustainable, mindful and local travel experiences are surging, and Byway and the slow travel movement are at the centre of that growth.

Interested?

We’re committed to building a diverse team and are eager to receive applications from all backgrounds. All applicants will receive consideration without discrimination.

Please apply with your CV & product design portfolio

Beeper is hiring a Remote Senior Product Designer

Senior Product Designer at Beeper (S21)
One chat app to rule them all
      Remote / Remote
      Full-time
      About Beeper

After 4 years at YC, I'm totally jealous of all these founders building amazing startups. Time to give in to the urge and join the fun! I'm now working 24/7 on http://Beeper.com. The idea is simple: messaging today is painfully fragmented. We're going to fix that.

Every time we communicate there is friction lurking under the surface. E.g. Which app did I message her on? Where's that photo gone? Why can't I join an iMessage group from my Android? Our mission is to eliminate that friction and boost the efficiency of the entire human race.

That's the long goal. Today, we're building the best darn chat app in the world. We've raised money (thanks YC!) and we're hiring: looking for React, iOS, Android devs, k8s SREs, product, design, support and growth. If you are passionate about chat, send me a DM!

I wrote a blog post about our plans: https://blog.beeper.com/p/the-universal-communication-bus-42dfb9a141ad

      About the role

At Beeper, we're working hard to build the best darn chat app in the world.

Beeper consolidates messages from 15+ chat apps into a single inbox to eliminate missed messages and notification overload. By integrating the most popular messaging services like iMessage, WhatsApp and Slack into one app to read and reply to all chats, we're making it really easy to stay in touch with your friends, family and colleagues.

Beeper launched in early 2021 and we're a small (but growing!) 30-person team. Beeper is fully remote with employees all around the world.

Shopify is hiring a Remote Staff Product Designer (Remote, Europe)

      Company Description

Shopify has redefined commerce by raising the standard for how companies of all sizes sell their products and services. To help power 1,000,000+ merchants in more than 175 different countries, Shopify is always growing and finding new ways to create more value for commerce businesses around the world.

Shopify's User Experience team is focused on enabling people to make commerce better at a global scale. With over 400 designers and content designers partnering closely with product managers, product researchers and developers working across the company, this team has a special role in building understanding and empathy for merchants. We believe in testing, iteration, and in giving people the room to experiment and grow. The UX team at Shopify has the mission to make commerce better for everyone… everywhere!

      Job Description

Shop is on a mission to change how we shop. From the fastest checkout experience in Shop Pay to all-in-one order tracking and easy ways to find and shop local brands in app, Shop is making shopping better one step at a time for both shoppers and the merchants they buy from. Having launched a year ago, Shop is already one of the top 5 apps in North America and we're just getting started.

You’ll mentor junior and senior designers, and will collaborate with a multidisciplinary UX, product management, data, and engineering team to deliver thoughtful and polished design work.

We’re always on the lookout for people who are excited to work on hard problems at a global scale in a friendly, collaborative environment. If this sounds familiar, we’d love to hear from you.

      Qualifications

      • Experience with a data-informed approach to design and using data as a tool to challenge your hypotheses, measure success of initiatives and spark new ideas about the next big opportunities that help drive retention.
      • Plenty of enthusiasm and persistence; you know that experimentation can require many iterations and not all ideas will hit the mark the first time. However, you’re excited about exploring different ideas to get there and building more context along the way.

      • Passion for solving product problems while balancing all facets of a user experience (strategy and research, information architecture, interaction design) and collaborating closely with multiple disciplines including product, engineering, content, and research.

      • Expert knowledge of the end to end iterative product design process including how to develop and use design research, job stories, journey mapping, wire-framing, prototyping, user testing, and high-fidelity visuals to achieve human-centred design solutions.

      • A deep empathy for the user, and tools to help others develop this empathy as well.

      • Excellent communication and storytelling skills; you have the ability to help your team and stakeholders understand the “why” behind your design rationale.

      • A scrappy, resourceful approach to projects - you’re proactive and great at self assigning tasks.

      Responsibilities

      • Working with cross-functional teams (developers, product managers, researchers, content strategists, fellow designers) to drive design vision and strategy that meets the needs of our users. You will help other disciplines understand the value design can bring to a project and ultimately build and ship the best products.

      • Coupling big picture thinking with smart pragmatism; define the vision and think strategically about how to ship designs in smaller parts to validate assumptions.

      • Deliver customer value and business goals using a hypothesis-driven design approach to frame and validate your design solutions.

      • Iterate often and quickly using a data-informed approach.

      • Improve the buyer experience. You’ll work on projects from start to finish and explore buyer problems, content mapping, sketching, wireframing, low and high fidelity prototyping, and leading stakeholder reviews.

      • Being an active mentor for other designers, and helping to raise the bar and quality of our collective work.

      • Adjust quickly to shifting approaches, situations, and priorities.

      • Contributing to our growing design system in an effort to cultivate a coherent look and feel across the entire Shopify platform.

      Additional Information

We know that applying to a new role takes a lot of work and we truly value your time. We are looking forward to reading your application. If you’re interested in helping us shape the future of commerce around the world, send us a few samples of your work: portfolio, wireframes, UX flows, publications, or whatever represents what you do best.

At Shopify, we are committed to building and fostering an environment where our employees feel included, valued, and heard. Our belief is that a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion enables us to truly make commerce better for everyone. We strongly encourage applications from Indigenous people, racialized people, people with disabilities, people from gender and sexually diverse communities and/or people with intersectional identities.

Wolt works together with over 55,000 restaurant and retail partners as well as with over 125,000 courier partners across 23 countries and 210 cities.

Our apps (iOS and Android) have the industry’s highest reviews, largely because of our customer-centric approach to how we build our products and operations. For example, our customer service team responds in a matter of seconds, in the customer’s own language.

We’ve raised more than €707M in financing from renowned U.S. and European based investors, such as ICONIQ Capital, Tiger Global, DST, Prosus, KKR, Coatue, 83North, Goldman Sachs, Highland Europe and EQT Ventures & EQT Growth, among others. We've also been fortunate enough to receive some appreciation and recognition for our hard work along the way: Apple selected Wolt’s app as their Editors' Choice, Wired named the company one of the "Hottest Startups in Europe," Forbes included our CEO Miki Kuusi on its 30-under-30 in Consumer Tech list, and the Nordic Startup Awards named Wolt Company of the Year.

In 2020, the Financial Times named us Europe’s second fastest growing company. We’re still expanding rapidly and are looking for more talented individuals to join us. If you are passionate about cutting-edge technology, great food, and making an impact in your city, then Wolt just might be for you.

Wolt is more than just a food and retail delivery operation – in fact we are built upon a solid foundation of state-of-the-art technology. Our internal tooling enables us to ramp up new cities efficiently and provide excellent customer service, our own logistics platform allows us to optimise our courier partners work to get you the food you want as fast as possible, and our restaurant platform allows restaurants to offer exciting food experiences for our customers in an optimal way.

We work in small teams with high ownership, with each team focusing on a key area of the Wolt product stack. Each and every one of our product team members has a say in where we are going and what solutions we implement. We work with a passion, but we haven't forgotten how to have fun along the way!
