Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in SAP BRIM, FICA and FSCM modules and their interconnections in cloud-based architecture
  • Strong experience in developing and deploying solutions for payments, collections, credit, and disputes management
  • At least 5 implementations and hands on expertise in SAP BRIM FICA, FSCM, ABAP, and other relevant programming languages
  • Proven track record of designing and delivering high-quality solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Expertise in web and mobile application development, including HTML5, CSS, Java, JavaScript, and React a plus

Your role

Your experience

You are an experienced, hands-on senior engineering leader with extensive experience identifying problems, coming up with technical solutions, and driving projects to completion. You care about culture, mentorship, and collaboration just as much as you care about coding, architecture, and technical design. You have an extreme user-focus, you are comfortable with ambiguity, you can drive alignment, and you make thoughtful data-driven decisions. 

  • Basic Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent technical experience.
    • 4+ years of industry ML experience as TL or TLM
  • Preferred Qualifications:  
    • MS/Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Statistics or a related field 
    • 7+ years of industry ML experience as TL or TLM
    • End-to-End experience building web-scale AI systems, feature stores, microservices
    • Background in one or more of the following areas of machine learning: recommendations, optimization, natural language processing (NLP), deep learning, LLMs, explainable AI
    • Experience building applications atop of IAAS (Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, Azure Cloud Services, etc.)
    • Experience working directly with cross-functional teams such as product management, analytics, engineering, and design.
    • Excellent communication skills — ability to succinctly communicate results and tell compelling stories with data to an out-of-domain audience (e.g. presenting findings and deep-dives to senior leadership).

Compensation range

  • $235,000-$260,000

About this role:

We’re looking for somebody with deep experience building, scaling, and tuning complex search products. We’re rethinking the search experience in Monzo to enable 10 million customers to find what they’re looking for – transactions, products, help articles, people, and more – in as few keystrokes as possible. 

This role sits in our Core Banking product collective, collaborating closely with ML Platform and a range of product teams across the business with a stake in how search results are ranked and displayed. You’ll be a key influence in the long-term product strategy for search at Monzo.

Initially, you’ll own 3 key challenges:

  1. Launch a global search experienceworking end-to-end from customer experience in our mobile apps to backend systems, indexes, and data pipelines
  2. Scale search to support all Monzo’s account types (incl. Business Banking, US) and internationalisation
  3. Optimise resultswith machine learning models and build feedback loops to measure search performance (e.g. latency and relevance) 

As a Staff Engineer:

A Staff Engineer at Monzo is a technical (IC) leadership position. As a Staff Engineer in the Core Banking collective, you will:

  • Partner with engineering leadership in the collective and provide technical leadership on the search domain across Monzo’s broader engineering organisation.
  • Work collaboratively with leaders in product, data, research, and design to identify and execute on opportunities that further the organisation’s goals and strategy.
  • Oscillate between contributing to high-level planning and strategy and organisational leadership and diving deep into the execution of problems and getting hands-on.
  • Use your expert knowledge and experience to lead architectural discussions for the most complex systems in the collective. 
  • Keep a high bar for technical excellence in the collective, through your own work, highlighting the work of others and calling out when things haven’t quite met the bar.
  • Pro-actively mentor, sponsor and up-level engineers.

What you’ll be using: 

We rely heavily on the following tools and technologies, please note direct experience in these technologies is not required and our interview process can be completed in any language:

The Role The Department of Defense (DoD) Sales Executive is responsible for driving business growth by establishing and strengthening relationships within the U.S. Department of Defense with special emphasis on research groups. This role involves developing and executing strategic sales initiatives, understanding complex DoD procurement processes, and effectively positioning the company's solutions to meet mission-critical needs. The DoD Sales Executive will lead business development activities and drive revenue growth, working closely with internal teams to tailor solutions that address the unique challenges and goals of DoD customers.

Responsibilities

  • Business Development: Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within various branches of the Department of Defense, including (but not limited to) Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines, with a special emphasis on research groups with compute-intensive workloads.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain trusted relationships with key decision-makers, influencers, and stakeholders within the DoD. Develop a deep understanding of customer needs, challenges, and strategic objectives.
  • Sales Strategy Execution: Create and execute sales plans to achieve revenue targets, including forecasting, tracking, and reporting progress. Align strategies with company objectives and market trends.
  • Proposal Development and Negotiation: Lead the preparation of proposals and presentations tailored to the specific needs of DoD clients. Negotiate contract terms in alignment with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Market Intelligence and Analysis: Stay informed of market trends, competitor activities, and emerging needs within the DoD sector. Leverage insights to refine sales approaches and influence product/service development.
  • Compliance: Ensure all sales activities comply with federal regulations, government contracting standards, and the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) guidelines.
  • Collaboration with Internal Teams: Work closely with engineering, product development, marketing, and project management teams to develop solutions that address DoD-specific requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in sales or business development with a focus on the Department of Defense or Defense Contractors.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of the DoD acquisition process, contracting vehicles, and federal procurement guidelines.
  • Skills: Proven ability to develop strategies and drive results in a government sales environment. Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Clearance: Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in government contracting are a plus.

  • Network: Established network of contacts within various DoD branches.

What you will need to be successful

  • Good coding and scripting skills in languages such as Bash and Python with a focus on automating infrastructure tasks, monitoring, and process optimisation.
  • Experience configuring Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, Crossplane, and Helm, with a focus on building scalable, reliable, and reproducible infrastructure.
  • In-depth knowledge of AWS cloud services, especially core services like VPC, S3, EC2, Kinesis, RDS, and EKS, with experience in multi-account setups and optimising for performance and cost-efficiency.
  • Skilled in container management and orchestration using Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Service Mesh (ie. Istio) and GitOps (ie. ArgoCD), with a focus on streamlined deployments and managing complex service-oriented architectures.
  • Experienced in leveraging observability tools, such as Honeycomb (OpenTelemetry) and DataDog, to support data-driven decisions across the wider engineering team.
  • Comprehensive understanding of networking in cloud environments, including VPN solutions, efficient network configuration, load balancing, and troubleshooting.

In close collaboration with software engineers, product managers, designers, and analysts, you’ll develop algorithms and data-driven solutions that empower our merchants with actionable insights. You’ll build machine learning models that deliver personalized recommendations for operational improvements and strategic product adoption, driving direct sales growth and enabling merchants to discover new opportunities and enhance performance.

What will make you a great fit: 

  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering roles focused on high-volume, complex data applications, with 5+ years in people leadership. 

  • Proven ability to build and manage high-quality data products and infrastructure, with experience leading cross-functional teams in complex data environments. 

  • Technical expertise in a wide range of AWS services, including Redshift, Glue, S3, Lambda, EMR, Kinesis, EC2, API Gateway, serverless technologies, and container services such as ECS and EKS, integrated with data orchestration tools. Proficiency in Python, SQL, or Scala, plus experience with ML frameworks. 

  • Experience with database management (RDBMS, NoSQL, graph databases) and big data frameworks, including Apache Spark and Hadoop, showcasing your ability to design and optimize complex data architectures and process large-scale data efficiently. 

  • Strong communication skills to align cross-functional teams and convey technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

The Vice President of Offensive Security Services & Research plays a pivotal role in shaping the organization's strategic direction.
