This is a hybrid role so you'll be splitting your time between working in our Burlington MA headquarters and your home office.

The OpenEdge Database is the core of the Progress OpenEdge product line, providing a high-performing, scalable and cost-effective platform allowing customers to build powerful business applications on premise and in the cloud.

This position will involve working as a Software Development Engineer in Test to test the OpenEdge Database and its various clients and utilities. The projects this person will be working on will require them to use the OpenEdge Advanced Business Language (ABL) and SQL clients in testing new Database functionality. The OpenEdge Database is the core of the Progress OpenEdge product line, providing a high-performing, scalable and cost-effective platform that allows our customers to build powerful transactional business applications deployed both on-premise and in the cloud.

WHAT YOU WILL DO IN THIS ROLE:

  • Attend and actively participate in regular Test and Development team meetings
  • Assist Senior Engineers in writing and implementing test plans, create test cases and automate test cases for the verification of new product functionality
  • Track and report status against assigned tasks
  • Perform product regression testing of software prior to product releases
  • Work closely with developers to facilitate the tracking of bugs and enhancements
  • Work closely with the development team to review product requirements and design

A IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS:

  • Applicable experience as a Test Engineer
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent field of study
  • Have a working understanding of Database technologies
  • Knowledge of software quality assurance and validation methodologies
  • Have knowledge and experience of high-level programming languages (Java, C/C++), and be comfortable working on both UNIX and Windows operating systems
  • Ability to learn new technologies independently
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills in order to interact with peers

  • Рівень англійської мови на рівні не нижче за Upper-Intermediate;

      As the QA Engineer in the Engineering team, you will take care of the quality of our product. Our engineering teams are collocated around some business features and sub-domains of our complex product. Therefore we want to empower the team with a dedicated QA Engineer who will entirely focus on this area and help us adopt the principle of continuous testing.

      You will be responsible for managing test scenarios and test suites, executing them, and finding ways to automate them. You will influence the QA strategy for the team by defining best practices and quality gates.

You will show our software engineers the importance and beauty of quality assurance and test automation, and they will help you deal with complex technical challenges.

      Your job will be to:

      1. Working within the team to deliver projects

      Working within the team to deliver projects

      • Cooperate with the team during the whole project life-cycle and be responsible for assuring the quality of the delivered solution.
      • Perform manual E2E testing (UI, API) of delivered features.
      • Automate test scenarios (UI, API) and build test suites for future regression testing.

      Improve QA strategy in the team

      • Help the team to adopt the idea of continuous testing.
      • Ensure we track, classify, and manage defects found during development or production.

      Cooperate with the Central QA team

      • Share best practices and ideas with the Central QA team (both directions)
      • Make sure the engineering team is following the overall QA strategy.
      • Be an active member of our QA community. 

       

      Your success story will be:

      • In 30 days, you will participate in projects as a QA engineer and ensure the quality of delivered solutions with help from the Central QA team.
      • In 90 days, you will manage test scenarios and test cases of main features, and you will be able to automate some of them.
      • In 180 days, you will be able to come up with ideas on how to improve QA strategy in a team. 

       

      You have the following experience and qualities:

      1. Professional— professional experience in Quality Assurance, including test automation

      Professional experience

      • You have experience with Quality Assurance in software engineering, ideally from a cross-functional team (mix of software engineers and QA engineers).
      • You can automate tests (UI or API) and ideally have some knowledge of JavaScript, Python or Go.
      • Ideally, you should be familiar with API testing (manual and automated), API performance testing, and mocking servers. 
      • Familiar with Continuous Testing, Lean, Agile, DevOps, CI/CD principles and tools like Jira and GitLab.
      • Knowledge and experience with tools like Selenium, Cypress, PostMan, K6, and LambdaTest, MockServer are also welcomed.

      As a QA Engineer at Slice you will ensure that our applications are released with the highest quality possible. 

      The Role

      Reporting to the QA lead you will be responsible for designing both manual and automated tests ensuring all relevant requirements are covered. You will be responsible for raising bugs in our bug tracking system whilst helping developers in debugging issues. In addition you will participate in the planning of software features within an Agile environment, including details of technical implementation and product requirements, all while serving as an internal representative, advocate, and expert for QA, contributing that perspective to the company in every way.

      In the UK, the Slice team is in direct contact with our US/Macedonian partners and customers on a daily basis. Our teams in the UK, Ohrid and Debar work closely with our New York City office to coordinate our support, marketing, and information efforts. You will be joining a close knit team of 6 quality assurance specialists in the Belfast office who are dedicated to the consistent quality of all Slice products and services.       We’re looking for creative, entrepreneurial engineers who are excited to build world-class products for small business counters. These are the core competencies this role calls for:

      • 2-3 years experience within software quality assurance and a strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle
      • Technical working knowledge of APIs and key concepts e.g authentication, payload structure and test approach is required
      • A working understanding of web services technology (HTML, browser features and challenges, use of browser-based dev tools etc)
      • Use of relevant API testing tools such as SoapUI/Postman, Charles/Fiddler to implement automated regression suites
      • Basic knowledge in programming languages (e.g SQL, Java, Python, HTML, Rails)
      • A general understanding of test automation concepts and tools for web and mobile applications
      • Work experience related to the quality of software products (troubleshooting, bug investigations, etc.)
      • Experience in creation and management of structured test plans based on feature acceptance criteria
      • Experience in working in an Agile environment
