Job Description

Under the general direction of the Manager, responsible for front-end web development for the online ISO brand. Works with communications and external affairs professionals and designs, builds, tests, implements, and maintains ISO web pages and web applications. Ensures that web pages and mobile app are reliable, accessible and support the organization's communications and internet strategies. What You Will Be Doing:

Qualifications

What You Will Be Doing: 

  • Uses statistical methods to collect and organize load, weather, and renewable resource data. Gathers and interprets various meteorological data to formulate short and medium-range forecasts critical to the Bulk Electric System for the ISO and EIM entities. Evaluates potential inefficiencies in current procedures and recommends improvements.
  • Partners with senior staff to develop hypotheses to improve forecasting accuracy for load, renewables, and uncertainty products. Uses software to retrain the neural network model and/or other modeling methods to prove or disprove forecast hypotheses and analyzes the results. In conjunction with peers, researches, develops, and creates plans to enhance short term load forecast, wind forecast, solar forecast, uncertainty requirements, and other energy models through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques. Develops and works with senior staff to implement new forecasting tools and interfaces using computer programming.
  • Provides technical analysis and coordination on all aspects of onboarding and validating variable energy resources to ensure timely, accurate and consistent detailed short-term wind and solar forecasts are used in the real-time and day-ahead markets. Provides technical analysis and coordination on all aspects of uncertainty requirements to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent requirements are available to operations and used in the real-time and day-ahead markets.
  • Assists with policy issues and related matters. May propose solutions to issues and problems within assigned areas of responsibility. Acts as a project coordinator in the design, definition, testing, documentation, implementation and support of forecast applications. Coordinates project efforts of ISO business units, vendors, market participants, and others as appropriate.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Regularly monitors and reports on relevant western utility matters where activities may impact the work of the ISO, including summarizing key themes and action items from utility industry workshops and meetings. Maintains a current inventory and technical knowledge of key regional initiatives and efforts in the utility sector. Acts as internal liaison to other departments and division staff to ensure they are aware of important regional matters and upcoming industry events or milestones that may affect or be of interest to the ISO.
  • Participates in efforts to incorporate feedback from regional industry stakeholders to effectively respond to their concerns and questions. Coordinates with departments throughout the ISO to align messaging and direction.   • Prepares general background research for management in advance of meetings and other outreach engagements, including company information, trends in utility load and resource data, presentation slides, summaries of ISO initiatives, drafting letters, and preparatory meetings with internal subject matter experts.
     
  • May assist in developing talking points and presentations for ISO management and executives, support special projects (e.g., reporting on regional activities), assist in writing and reviewing ISO publications, event planning and organizing recurring calls and briefings.

Under the general direction of the Manager, acts as a primary point of contact for transactional issues between the ISO and its Stakeholders/Customers addressing issues that may range from real time operational issues to settlement and dispute inquiries.  Initiates and coordinates resolution to business issues related to business operations, market transactions, ISO contracts, scheduling, real time operations, metering, settlements, ISO Tariff compliance, and information technology.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Serves as a primary point of contact for transactional issues between the ISO and its customers and stakeholders.  Provides customer care through phone support, issue management (CIDI), email, web inquiries and the Customer Support Desk/Real Time Operations.  Seeks to continuously improve customer phone management, CIDI management, self-help capability and communications including external change management communications and quality.  Supports the corporate strategic plan objectives of enhanced pro-active monitoring, improved responsiveness and quality of issue resolution, and identification and elimination of root causes of incoming issues.  Researches, analyzes, and coordinates resolution of customer’s market, business and operations issues with a focus on quality timely resolution.  Builds internal expertise on business processes and solutions and engages with SME’s as necessary.
     
  • Provides support and continuously evolves and develops assigned areas of expertise.   Creates documentation, such as knowledge articles, for self-help capability and education of customers and stakeholders.  Responsible for overseeing the maintenance of issue management and knowledge management tools.  Accurately captures detailed subject matter expertise within assigned areasto provide customers with responses to complex questions and enable them to perform their business in accordance with ISO Tariff and Operating Procedures.  Proactively develops relationships and maintains a high standard of excellence in external and internal customer care.
     
  • Develops and supports the evolution of the customer support model in collaboration with Account Managers.  Coordinates proactive outreach efforts, communications and issue resolution with Account Managers as required.  Monitors and refines Customer Service, Scheduling Coordinator and internal ISO business work flow and processes as they pertain to the business unit, to improve and enhance process efficiency.  Ensures department processes and procedures are accurately captured and followed.  Gathers information pertaining to issues and presents solutions to management to mitigate and maintain positive client relationships.
     
  • Develops goals and action plans aligned to strategic initiatives to promote customer care within the company.  Oversees the activities of entry level Client Representatives and may direct the work of team members.  Participates in needs assessments, development and distribution of market notices to ensure accurate messaging and content.

Client representative and customer service experience required.  In-depth knowledge of one of the following ISO/RTO areas required:  Market Design, Settlements, Grid Operations, Compliance or Metering.  Familiarity with ISO/RTO Operations, Settlements Policies and Procedures.

Job Description

Under the general direction of the Manager of Transmission Assets, works on complex engineering assignments provides expertise in support of Transmission Asset activities.  Ensures the ISO is in compliance with the Transmission Control Agreement (TCA) and is responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the ISO Transmission Maintenance Standards with respect to transmission facility (stations and associated equipment) maintenance.  Partners with the lead engineer to administer the Transmission Register and works with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the TR data is accurate.  Supports the ISO planning process phase three competitive solicitation process.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the ISO Transmission Maintenance Standards.  Conducts maintenance reviews of each PTO’s maintenance records and facilities.  Analyzes results from the annual maintenance reviews, standard maintenance reporting system, and availability measures to identify any positive or negative trending, and makes appropriate recommendations to the ISO and PTOs that will result in overall improvements to grid reliability.
  • Provides the primary administrative functions for the Transmission Register (TR) for internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Provides transmission line expertise and joint oversight in implementing the CAISO Transmission Planning Process Phase III competitive solicitation process. 
  • Partners with and supports the Regional Transmission Engineering, Grid Operations, and others within the ISO to understand and resolve identified transmission facility related issues.  Trains and mentors others concerning transmission facilities and their function.  Resolves transmission facility maintenance related stakeholder issues.
  • In partnership with the lead transmission assets engineers, identifies areas to improve the functionality of the group and the overall department.  Actively participates in staff meetings, and identifies improvements to department practices, policies and processes. 
  • Ensures compliance with FERC, NERC and other regulatory requirements relating to transmission maintenance.  Responsible for transmission facility compliance reporting requirements.

Qualifications

Level of Education and Discipline:

  • A Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) required in Engineering. Focus on electrical power systems preferred. 

Amount of Experience:

  •  Equivalent years of education and training, plus five (5) or more years related experience.

Type of Experience:

  • Experience in high voltage Transmission Facility Equipment and Transmission Facility Maintenance or directly related experience. 
  • Experience with California or other WECC transmission grid desired.
