Your impact

Handshake is hiring a Senior Product Manager to help us deliver a world class consumer experience. More than half of college students in the US have a profile on Handshake but they’re using the platform primarily as a transactional job board. In this role, you will work with a cross-functional team to deliver a roadmap that helps students grow their careers through content and community and transforms Handshake into Gen Z’s professional social network. 

Ultimately, we believe Handshake can give every student access to the career-defining power of a supportive community and we need your help to make that happen!

Your role

  • Product Strategy. You’ll ensure that your squads have a cohesive and differentiated product strategy that ladders up into the Content & Community team and company strategy.
  • Leadership. You’ll represent your squad and product area to executives, and translate company-wide strategies to your squad and into your roadmap. You’ll inspire your team on the product vision.
  • Goal Setting. You’ll hold your squads accountable to clear goals that ensure they are tracking effectively towards their strategy.
  • Planning and Execution. You’ll lead your team and stakeholders in prioritizing and collaborating on the roadmap while ensuring we have appropriate alignment with appropriate stakeholders. You will also exercise influence on adjacent product areas and organization-wide strategy.
  • Collaboration.You’ll work closely with other key leaders in the Content & Community team (i.e. design, marketing, engineering, data) as well as leaders in other lines of businesses (E.g. Career Events, Paid Employer offerings) to ensure cohesive strategy and execution.

  • Customer expert. You understand the needs of your customer better than anyone else and prioritize them everywhere, grounding your approach in data and research.
  • Marketplace Fluent. You think holistically across the different user types and their respective incentives in a marketplace to create “matched”, end-to-end, successful products.
  • Strong systems and analytical thinker.Can connect the dots, spot challenges and edge cases, integrate multiple considerations.
  • Experience launching and managing a consumer social productwith 1M+ active users
  • Expert at using datafor tactical and strategic decisioning, goal setting, and iterating quickly.

Bonus areas of expertise

  • PM experience leading the development and launch of net new, “zero to one” consumer products
  • Experience managing a consumer product with significant scale (i.e. 10MM+ users)

Compensation range

  • $160,000-190,000

For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. Your impact

Handshake is hiring a Senior Product Manager, Enterprise reporting to the Senior Director, Product on our Employer team. Employers already account for a lion’s share of Handshake’s revenue, and we expect this growth to continue as we scale our SaaS offering and define the category of proactive, data-driven recruiting that helps employers hire entry level talent and young professionals find their first and second jobs. 

We’ve made strides to become the market leader in college jobs, recruiting events, and novel methods for employers to reach both targeted and broad talent pools. You’ll be building on this foundation, creating new products and reimagining existing ones to transform how employers form trust-based relationships with candidates across multiple mediums that scales for a marketplace of millions of active users. 

You’ll be part of a close-knit cross-functional team of not just R&D but also Go-To-Market, including marketing operations, product marketing, sales, customer success and insights. At the same time, you’ll be mindful about making a positive societal impact, increasing access for diverse talent in entry level recruiting.

Your role

You’ll own the lifecycle end-to-end for your product area, including:

  • Leadership. You’ll represent your squad and product area to executives, and translate company-wide strategies to your squad and into your roadmap. You’ll inspire your team on the product vision.
  • Product strategy. You’ll ensure that your squads have a cohesive and differentiated product strategy that ladders up into the Employer team and company strategy.
  • Product development: You’ll lead a high performing cross-functional squad, including engineering and design partners, from research and roadmap planning to delivery 
  • Launch and adoption: You’ll partner closely on go-to-market and implementation, working with marketing, sales and customer success. You never hesitate to roll up your sleeves and tackle something hands-on. It’s never someone else’s problem. You’ll run beta programs and pilots to maximize learning and minimize code investment, getting close to the customer and the details through the process. 
  • Cross-Handshake partnership: You’ll work with stakeholders across Handshake’s largest team (the broader Employer team) and on other sides of the Handshake marketplace (EDUs and Student) to innovate quickly but deliberately
  • Goals, metrics and tracking: You’ll create a robust and clear thread of data from strategy through development through in-market iteration.

Your experience

  • Strong foundation in roadmap development and releasing products for complex, multifaceted marketplace businesses or SaaS platforms.
  • 5+ years partnering with engineering teams to ship code. Ideally in a many-stakeholder environment with dependencies and collaboration. 
  • Strong systems and analytical thinker.Can connect the dots, spot challenges and edge cases, integrate multiple considerations.
  • Extensive experience presenting both internally and externally including working with customers, users, and internal cross-functional partners and executives.
  • Working knowledge of data-driven applications including mapping, schemas, permissions that inform user interactions and downstream analytics.
  • User focused. You dive headfirst into understanding the needs of employers and build products grounded in data and research.

Bonus areas of expertise

  • Revenue-generating entrepreneurial experience 
  • Product management experience in both fast-growing consumer marketplaces and SaaS businesses with 100+ employees is a major plus.

What might your days look like 

As the Product Manager for Security, you will lead the strategy, vision, and delivery of initiatives that ensure the security and resilience of our platform. Working closely with the Head of Information Security, you will uphold ISO compliance, implement best practices, and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Designers, Engineers, and Data experts, to deliver exceptional value to our users. As our Product Manager, you’ll be responsible for

Product Management & Delivery

  • Responsible for the delivery of the product vision and its success.
  • Drive the product discovery for features and initiatives on the roadmap.
  • Translate the product vision and roadmap through to delivery, operation and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and adapt the product vision and roadmap as constraints are identified whilst staying true to the product vision.

Backlog Management

  • Apply a strategic mindset to user story prioritisation and delivery.
  • Continually maintain a prioritised backlog of user stories.
  • Balance business goals, stakeholder expectations and customer desirability with what can feasibly be delivered (technically and within available time and budget).
  • Represent the customer and business in decision-making prioritisation during release and sprint planning.
  • Able to identify, filter and prioritise customer complaints and feedback.

Collaboration and Team Management

  • Collaborate with designers and product leadership team to plan, undertake and input results of testing and performance measurement into future release and roadmap planning.
  • Collaborate with our Product Designers to ensure we deliver best-in-class designs, and create appropriate user stories and acceptance tests.
  • Collaborate with Developers to ensure the product vision and designed solutions are feasible and viable.
  • Work with Sales and Marketing to develop launch collateral with the aim of educating and sharing Product’s vision with customers and prospects alike.
  • Collaborate with Professional Services and Support teams to create rollout and implementation plans for existing customers.

Communication

  • Concisely explain ideas, issues or project status to key stakeholders and the wider organisation at an appropriate level of business or technical detail.
  • Ensure product requirements are gathered accurately and are communicated transparently to the product squad.
  • Be able to host, conduct and articulate presentations to the whole organisation, including C-level execs, as well as corporate partners and external customers.

What will you bring
Essential:

  • Undergraduate degree (Business Systems, IT or Engineering disciplines preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in product management and strategy, with a proven record of successfully launching products.
  • 3+ years working experience with software development teams using agile (Scrum preferred).
  • Innovative thinking with a passion for problem-solving and user-centric design.
  • Demonstrate ability to drive cross-functional alignment, motivation and coordinate teams.

Salary

In the US, the base salary for this role is $126,000-140,000, depending on skills and experience. We take a geo-neutral approach to compensation within the US, meaning that we pay based on job function and level, not location. For all other countries, we have competitive pay bands based on market standards.

Individual compensation decisions are based on a number of factors, including experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at our company to fall healthily throughout the range based on these factors. We recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted. If that ends up being the case, the updated salary range will be communicated with you as a candidate.

    - Work effectively with and build relationships between yourself and the developer teams that you manage, even if the individuals on your teams do not report directly to you. You are the point person between developers, QAs, project managers, and product designers.

    - Manage & drive product initiatives and associated features and be able to effectively manage your dev teams’ backlogs to match those priorities. This includes taking part in product planning and roadmap creation.

    - Account for the customer’s voice when making changes or improvements to the product. Consider customer needs by reviewing customer existing data in Power BI, Salesforce, and Pendo.     - Focus on **self-serve onboarding** for customers and end-users across the platform, including onboarding for the full platform and various channels.

    - Be able to write clear and detailed product initiatives, feature/epics, story’s, design requests, and bug tickets within Jira for developers, product designers, QA/QE team members.

    - The Product Manager works closely with design and developers with ideas of what is needed by customers, to provide clear direction.

    For positions in this location, we offer a base pay of $181,100 - $316,900, plus equity (when applicable), variable/incentive compensation and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. Please note that the base pay shown is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location. We also offer health plans, including flexible spending accounts, a 401(k) Plan with company match, ESPP, matching donations, a flexible time away plan and family leave programs.     Common Energy is backed by one of the country’s leading climate funds and its board and advisors include former executives from Facebook, Google and President Obama’s cabinet. We are seeking an experienced contract Product Manager to join our product development team.

    The Role

    As a contract Product Manager, you’ll be primarily responsible for driving the transformation of our core operations platform. You should:

    • Hit the ground running; leading the project and delivering value to users in the first week
    • Communicate with radical candor, meeting confrontation with respect and compassion
    • Prepare GANTT charts, coordinate engineers, lead a design or problem solving session, and gather user feedback all in the same day
    • Answer for slipping timelines and missed milestones

    You will report directly to our VP of Software (hiring manager) but will have the support of the product leadership group, the product engineering team and their institutional knowledge. You should be an efficient self-starter, motivated to deliver value to meaningfully improve our internal user’s experiences thereby increasing efficiency and mitigating risk of human error. You should be a nimble multi-disciplinarian capable of absorbing and articulating the details of our business in short order. You should be curious and ambitious, ready to follow or lead depending on the circumstances.

    Responsibilities

    • Review and revise existing project discovery, requirements, and documentation
    • Write and manage user stories, requirements, and prioritization
    • Kanban board management (Shortcut)
    • Integrate into our product development team and participate in shaping our roadmap, processes, and team culture
    • Report on progress weekly to product leadership group
    • Manage progress and push project forward daily
    • Interface with our internal operations and customer service teams
    • Collaborate on QA processes

    Contract Details

    • 3 month 1099 contract with option to extend
    • Part-time 20-30h per week
    • Remote first, with presence in the NYC Office as needed (expectation: on average once or twice a week) 
    • US work authorization required

    Experience Required

    • 8+ years of experience as product manager in fast-paced environment
    • Must have previous experience as project-based / contract product manager
    • Experience managing internal platform/backoffice applications
    • Experience in startup product development
    • Experience collaborating on UI/UX design
    • Experience managing long running, incremental release initiatives

    Experience Wanted

    • Experience with Salesforce and AWS
    • Experience with micro-service architecture
    • Experience with both B2B and B2C (SaaS-like)
    • Experience with email campaign automation
    • Experience with customer journey design
    • Experience mentoring product managers
