VALR is looking for seasoned backend software engineers with experience in building applications that are fast, accurate, scalable and secure to help us deliver the best experience possible to our customers.

We are seeking people with extensive knowledge of Kotlin or Java, or other JVM based languages. We’d also like to meet people with experience in other similar languages and technologies, even if we’re not actively using them, as long as they are willing to make the switch.

Purpose of the job:

As a Blockchain Engineer at VALR, your primary purpose is to design, develop, and maintain blockchain-based systems to ensure the security, efficiency, and scalability of VALR’s platform. You will be instrumental in driving innovation, implementing best practices, and optimising performance within our blockchain infrastructure.

What will you be doing:

• Build, improve and maintain containerised clusters of blockchain daemons/consensus nodes in a scalable and highly redundant way
  
• Develop and deploy NodeJS workers, within VALR’s infrastructure, that interface with blockchain nodes’ HTTP or Websocket interfaces
• Implement robust monitoring tools to control the stability of VALR’s blockchain infrastructure using Grafana and Prometheus
• Subscribe to relevant Discord, Telegram and Github channels and maintain healthy relationships with the web3 community as a way to quickly solve problems with Blockchain node execution

Purpose of job:

As a Software Engineer at VALR, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of both the backend and front-end components of our trading platform. Your primary objective will be to architect, design, and implement scalable and efficient solutions using Kotlin for backend services and React for frontend applications, ensuring seamless communication and optimal user experiences.

Purpose of the job:

To drive the growth of VALR by originating new customers, developing relationships with existing customers, and identifying opportunities for further growth within existing and new customer segments. This role will have a focus on South African OTC market share growth and performance of our VIP customer segment locally while still having an input and contributing to international BD efforts, particularly within Africa.

What will you be doing:

Business Development:

• Originate new customers and develop relationships particularly as it relates to OTC and African VIP relationships.
• Attend conferences and events for business development and network building.
• Represent the voice of the customer internally.
• Hold and maintain key customer relationships, proactively growing and enhancing the relationship including cross-selling and soliciting, and acting promptly on feedback.
• Identify and pursue potential partnerships to enhance business growth.
• Collaborate with marketing teams to align business development efforts with promotional activities.
• Monitor and analyse market trends to identify new business opportunities.
• Provide insights on competitor activities and market developments.
• Orchestration of OTC deals and other transactions.
• Play a key role in pricing and trading activities where required.

Product development:

• Work closely with the product team to understand and address customer needs through product improvements or new offerings.

International Expansion:

• Support international growth efforts and operations as needed.

What we look for in you:

• South African resident, ideally in Johannesburg, or willing to travel occasionally.
