What you’ll do:

  • You will work with an open and motivated team designing digital experiences that solve agency missions.
  • You will own the Interface and Interaction Design - leading user experience strategy, improvement assessments, information architecture, wireframes, and user research activities.
  • You will strategize about how to integrate web, mobile, data, and emerging platforms into seamlessly interconnected ecosystems.
  • You will take part in the Agile process; grooming different solutions to challenges.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • You have an active Secret security clearance or higher.
  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design or similar concentration.
  • You have 5-7 years of experience with user interface design patterns and standard UCD methodologies.
  • You have experience gathering requirements from users and stakeholders, defines information architecture, creates sample user personas, and documents user workflow.
  • You have experience performing user research and usability testing, and facilitates focus groups. Applying the results from user research and usability testing to create new features and improve current features.
  • Experience translating information into UIs and Interactions.
  • You have an understanding of common software development and agile development practices.
  • Experience creating User Stories while working with business analysts to develop acceptance criteria.
  • You have familiarity with various graphic design software packages
  • You have experience designing wireframes, mockups, and prototypes, as well as visual design comps.
  • You have knowledge of visual design and wireframing/prototyping tools.
  • Have have a working knowledge of design patterns and pattern libraries.
  • Experience with Section 508 compliance.

About the Role:

Gusto’s new Business Insurance team helps small businesses protect themselves from risk and liability. Business insurance can be a crucial financial safety net when unexpected costs arise from accidents or mistakes. Our team helps business owners navigate this complicated space and find the best protection for them.

As the founding designer of this team, you’ll play a key role in establishing this new product line. Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Work with the other members of your leadership team to define a long-term UX vision for your product area and how it fits into Gusto’s broader vision.
  • Co-lead the definition of product strategy, roadmap, team OKRs, and project direction.
  • Work with cross-functional partners in UX Research, Data Science, Legal, Compliance, Partnerships, and Customer Support to understand customer problems and identify key opportunities for the customer and our business. 
  • Ship both net new and iterative projects that deliver consistent value to our customers.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • 8+ years of software product design experience, preferably in B2B SaaS. Bonus if you’ve led the initial launch of a new product offering.
  • Builder mindset: You have demonstrated experience as an individual contributor design leader at the product or group level, and can articulate how you’ve set direction and built alignment through your design work.

Our cash compensation range for this role is $174,000/yr to $235,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $204,000/yr to $254,000/yr in San Francisco, Seattle & New York. Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 daysper week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

About your role and the team:

We are a team of thirteen people at the moment. We cooperate tightly as a single unit on a multitude of tasks and challenges in order to make our application the best to serve our customers’ needs. Since not all of us enjoy tasks with a focus on styling, a subteam of stylers has been formed that takes care of our UI library of low-level components. 

We are facing a variety of tasks on our daily basis that fall mostly into three categories - designing and developing new features, maintaining existing features in the underlying codebase and sometimes prototyping new features as POCs.

What we expect of the candidate:

Must have

  • advanced TypeScript (or JavaScript with a strong will to switch to TypeScript)
  • advanced Angular (or similar component-based framework with a strong will to switch to Angular)
  • experience with software design & architecture (be able to propose and implement an effective & efficient solution based on problem definition without detailed instructions)
  • The ability to work in project teams effectively, being reliable and communicating clearly.
  • A “can-do” attitude

Should have

  • experience with developing bigger projects
  • At least an intermediate skill with SCSS / CSS (be able to get things done in reasonable quality if your styler colleagues are busy)

Preferably have

  • experience with testing (Karma, Jasmine, Cypress)
  • experience with RxJS

Nice have

  • experience with mentoring less experienced colleagues

How we work:

Our entire engineering team works in 6 week cycles. Each developer is assigned to one or more projects during this cycle and aims to deliver the project together with other project team members from various other teams. In addition to working on projects, we also focus on other tasks - not limited to working on our backlog, providing an L3 support to our client facing colleagues or making improvements to our product through an initiative called “Happy consultants”.
In order to keep our high quality standards, each change in code we do gets reviewed and our automated pipeline builds these changes, runs a series of tests, runs the linter, packages the outputs and deploys them onto a development environment.
We are a team of diverse skill sets - you will need to share your experience and knowledge (during code reviews and ideally also beyond) with other colleagues and help them grow just like we all will help and support you from the minute you join us.

Challenges:

Here are some of the challenges that kept us busy in the past:

  • Micro frontend research
    • Our application is split up into modules but we are experimenting with the idea of loosening up the coupling even a bit more and splitting our large application into a collection of smaller ones run under a single container application.
    • Identify the pros and cons of this approach and what problems will it solve effectively and what other problems it might bring.
    • Take into account how this switch potentially affects not the architecture alone but also the execution, deployment and DX.
  • Optimizing build performance
    • The larger an application gets, the more complex the build becomes. Our application consists of hundreds of components, directives, services, pipes and other functions.
    • Find a way to optimise the build in order to make the DX and the pipeline build performance better.
  • Optimizing change detection
    • Our application aims to deliver a swift interaction experience to its users without the feeling that something is lagging.
    • Identify components that are underperforming.
    • Analyze their bottlenecks using the profiler.
    • Optimize the runtime performance of the problematic code parts.
  • Data visualisation
    • Our real-time analyses like trends, funnels, reports, and segmentations allow users to gain insights about their data from multiple perspectives. We integrate with external data sources spanning multiple relational databases and big data storage systems.
    • Build an interface for users to query data from data sources located outside of the Engagement to build the basis for our analyses and visualizations.
    • Create complex data visualizations using the Highcharts library or similar suitable tool.
    • Be proactive in proposing solutions which will help users to better understand their data.
    • Improve test quality and extend test coverage.
  • Extend UI library
    • We have created a mature UI library with the goal in mind to unify the look, behavior, and the API of our reusable components. This library already consists of a solid foundation of components but the innovation in the Engagement goes hand in hand with the need to create new components and enhance existing ones.
    • Create new reusable components while focusing on clear API, stability, best possible UX and modern browser support.
    • Test your component well. Use unit tests to cover all thinkable and unthinkable scenarios your component may go through to make it robust.
  • Other than that…
    • We work hard to have sustainable code, but we still have some code in our codebase, especially from the early startup era, that was written in haste to keep the business running - you will need to be able to get around in complex code and help us refactor it.
    • Automated testing of our code is important to us. You will need to cover your code, help us improve existing test quality and extend overall test coverage - spanning from unit tests, through integration tests to automated e2e tests.

Purpose of the Job
 

As the first UX Engineer fully dedicated to the 6sense design system (6DS), you will help build an enterprise-level design system that elevates our products and improves team efficiency. In addition to acting as the technical liaison between UX and Engineering, you will deliver design system components that are easy for designers and developers to use. All of our engineers will continue to contribute to 6DS alongside their designer counterparts, but this front-end engineering role will play a unique role in helping to seamlessly bring together the concerns of both development and design. 

This is not a designer or project manager role. If you are a Senior Frontend Engineer with experience leading efforts within a Design System team to plan, code, document, and deliver components, then this may be a great opportunity for you. 

Responsibilities & Accountabilities 

  • Build reusable, single-source-of-truth (SSOT), accessible UI components in React, including design tokens and code-focused Storybook documentation.  
  • Ensure components are built for scalability, so that they can be extended as needed over time.  
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between design, development, and product management to ensure the design system meets cross-functional user needs.  
  • Understand the why behind proposed component designs and assess technical feasibility. Scope development efforts.  
  • Communicate component changes and updates to the wider Tech   
  • Work closely with product engineers to help them correctly implement SSOT components in our products. 
  • Contribute to design system project planning, including estimating time to build components and effort required to implement components across the platform.  
  • Help review incoming requests to add new components and extend existing components.  
  • As needed, develop prototypes and conduct user testing to gather feedback and iterate on design components and patterns.

Educational and Experience Requirements 

A portfolio or live design system that showcases:  

  • Your experience building and documenting SSOT UI components as a senior member of a design system team. Must show expertise in React, implementing/managing/using Storybook, HTML, CSS, JavaScript. 
  • How you approach building accessibility UI components. 
  • How you implemented design tokens and how you work in Figma developer tools

Le ou la Gestionnaire Principal·e Commerce Électronique dirige une équipe de gestionnaire de produits et de spécialistes UI/UX qui ont pour mission de bâtir et optimiser les parcours numériques de Vidéotron dans le but de rendre le client toujours plus autonome dans l’achat des produits et services de l’entreprise et de permettre l’atteinte des objectifs de ventes numériques.

Principales responsabilités : 

    1. Développer et superviser la stratégie globale des parcours d’achats en ligne en cohérence avec la vision de l’entreprise 

  • Identifier les besoins en collaboration avec les différents contributeurs. À ce titre, établir des relations de confiance avec toutes les parties prenantes qui interagissent avec nos plateformes numériques afin de favoriser l’orchestration efficace des besoins. 
  • Définir l'expérience numérique cible, développer, optimiser et prioriser la feuille de route pour les parcours numériques sous sa responsabilité. 
  • S’assurer de la cohérence dans l’orientation de ses produits entre les différents projets en alignement avec les autres parcours numériques et les objectifs de l’entreprise.

    2. Orchestrer la mise en œuvre de la feuille de route des parcours d’achats en ligne 

  • Collaborer étroitement avec les concepteurs UX-UI, rédacteurs et les équipes technologiques dans le but de créer et livrer des expériences pertinentes et performantes. 
  • Piloter les activités de définition et création des artefacts clés liés aux produits numériques, tels que, mais non limité à : des cartes d'expérience, des parcours utilisateurs, des persona, des récits d'utilisateurs et les documents relatifs aux exigences d’affaires. 
  • Orchestrer le travail des PO sur l'ensemble des produits numériques. 
  • Prendre les décisions nécessaires au développement et à l'évolution des produits numériques, appuyé par les experts TI. 

     3. S’assurer de la valeur livrée et de la rentabilité des investissements 

  • S’assurer du suivi de la valeur livrée, avec des indicateurs pertinents pour suivre l’avancement des feuilles de route, des projets, des axes d’amélioration, des risques et mesurer l’atteinte des objectifs fixés. 
  • Promouvoir le travail et les réalisations de l'équipe, l’arrimage des efforts autour des objectifs communs et renforcer l'engagement à l'égard de ces objectifs. 
  • Optimiser les processus avec nos partenaires de travail pour maximiser la valeur produite pour les parcours d’achat. 

Qualifications

  • 6-8 ans d'expérience dans la conception de produits numériques transactionnels 
  • Expérience avérée dans le développement de projets d’envergure au sein d’un environnement matriciel et agile 
  • Expérience démontrée en gestion d’équipe et de talents 
  • Capacité démontrée à établir des partenariats avec les parties prenantes ainsi que des équipes de livraison (équipes de conception, environnement technique)

Principales responsabilités :

   1. Leadership du UI Design :

  • Développer et maintenir une vision cohérente et innovante pour l'interface utilisateur de nos produits;
  • Concevoir des interfaces utilisateur intuitives et attrayantes en accord avec les besoins des utilisateurs et les objectifs de l'entreprise;
  • Collaborer avec les équipes produit, UX et développement pour intégrer les designs de manière fluide et efficace;

   2. Gestion du Design System :

  • Créer, développer et maintenir le Design System de l'entreprise, y compris les composants UI, les styles, les guidelines et les normes de conception;
  • Assurer l’harmonisation des éléments de design à travers tous les produits et plateformes;
  • Prioriser et coordonner le développement des nouveaux composants ou des évolutions de composants du design system avec les développeurs front end;
  • Documenter le Design System de manière claire et accessible pour les équipes de conception et de développement;
  • Assurer une communication efficace et claire concernant les mises à jour et les évolutions du Design System aux équipes internes;

   3. Innovation et Amélioration Continue :

  • Suivre les tendances actuelles en matière de design UI/UX et d'outils de conception pour proposer des améliorations et des innovations dans le Design System;
  • Réaliser des audits réguliers du Design System pour identifier les opportunités d’optimisation et d’évolution;
  • Encadrer et coacher les designers UI et les membres de l’équipe sur les meilleures pratiques en matière d'UI et d’utilisation du Design System;
  • Organiser des sessions de formation et des ateliers pour promouvoir l’adoption et la compréhension du Design System au sein de l’entreprise.

Qualifications

  • Baccalauréat en marketing numérique, commerce en ligne ou TI;
  • Minimum sept (7) années d’expérience en design UI/UX, avec une expérience significative dans la gestion et le développement de Design Systems;
  • Maîtrise des outils de design (Figma) ainsi que des technologies web (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) et des principes de développement front-end;
  • Capacité à maintenir une vision et gérer une feuille de route;
  • Capacité à gérer plusieurs projets simultanément, avec un excellent sens de l'organisation et une attention aux détails;
  • Grande capacité d’influence et à travailler en équipe;
  • Expérience dans l’industrie des télécommunications, un atout;

Qualifications

  • Minimum de cinq (5) années d’expérience en conception d’expérience d’utilisation et en design d’interface;
  • Excellente connaissance des méthodologies de conception UX, incluant les méthodes de recherche utilisateur;
  • Maîtrise de Figma;
  • Maîtrise des concepts de Design Thinking et de Service Design;
  • Expérience dans le maintien de Design System;
  • Capacité à travailler sous pression et à produire des résultats dans des délais serrés;
  • Capacité d’assumer du leadership avec des équipes de travail multidisciplinaires;
  • Avoir une très bonne connaissance des outils d’expériences numériques;
  • Expérience dans le secteur des télécommunications, un atout;
