About the Role:

Fubo is looking for an exceptional Software Engineer with a passion for video systems that solve complex problems.

As a member of the VOD Acquisition, Encoding & Operations team at Fubo, you will work in a video streaming ecosystem that writes code for all parts of a VOD acquisition, encoding, packaging and encryption pipeline.  Additionally, you will have the opportunity to engineer solutions for research and innovations sake within the ecosystem that is streaming video. 

As a Software Engineer on a small, dedicated team, this role also requires an aptitude for removing complexity from existing architectures, performing frequent code reviews, mentoring fellow engineers, and representing Fubo and its interests with third parties and vendors. 

All Fubo Software Engineers must:

  • Architect, design, develop, test, maintain, and improve software systems
  • Have 4+ years of experience in delivering working software
  • Write clean, well-tested code
  • Be familiar with REST APIs and SQL
  • Have a mastery of at least one modern backend stack, with a willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies
  • Have an interest or experience in streaming video, message queues, and/or microservices
  • Collaborate with other engineers and members of the Fubo team to determine priorities and best practices, and refine functional requirements

Software Engineers on the VOD Acquisition, Encoding & Ops team are expected to have the following:

  • 4+ years of experience delivering production-quality software in a high traffic environment
  • Experience writing and deploying cloud-computed-hosted code (e.g. AWS, Azure)
  • Solid understanding of relational and key-value store databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, Redis, cloud SaaS NoSQL/SQL)
  • Comfortable working in multiple coding languages (e.g. Java, Golang, Python)
  • Familiarity with modern code-deployment toolchains (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, Spring Framework)
  • Familiarity with media containers (e.g. MP4, MPEG-2 TS), streaming protocols (e.g. DASH, HLS), and tools for encoding/decoding/muxing/demuxing (e.g. ffmpeg, MP4Box), and content protection (e.g. CENC, CBCS) is a plus.
  • Experience debugging software through automated regression testing
  • Remain informed of industry best-practices and standards and promote their use internally to the video teams throughout the Fubo engineering organization
  • Enhance the quality of our codebases while increasing their simplicity, as well as providing mentoring to help teammates do the same

  • Join our Site Reliability team, which is responsible for infrastructure behind our core Webflow tools, APIs, and hosting services.
  • Empower engineers on other teams to take control of their services by writing shared infrastructure-as-code tooling and collaborating on internal best practices for infrastructure.
  • Consult with other teams across engineering to continuously improve runbooks, documentation, and other operational processes to better support our production environment.
  • Occasionally dive into the main Webflow application in Node, Python, or Go to better discern (and sometimes fix) behavior in production.
  • Drive relationships with stakeholders across Customer Support, Partnerships, and Sales to understand how Webflow’s production services should support projected growth. 
  • Participate in and help to scale on-call and incident response processes with future roadmapping in mind.
  • Drive cross-pillar collaboration with software engineers, product managers, designers, and QA analysts in an autonomous, supportive team environment.

You’ll thrive as a Staff Site Reliability Engineer if you … 

  • Have 7-10+ years of experience in scalable, multi-tenant environments.
  • Either a background as an ops engineer with an enthusiasm for code, or a background as a software engineer with an enthusiasm for systems administration.
  • 5+ years of experience building, maintaining, and debugging distributed systems in a customer-facing environment that allows for little to no downtime.
  • Experience navigating and scaling multi-tier cloud environments on either AWS or GCP.
  • Experience with container-centric architectures, built with Docker and tools like Kubernetes (EKS, GKE, AKS, OpenShift, etc.), ECS, Docker Swarm, or Mesos.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, Pulumi, Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Experience in contributing to full-stack applications built using tools like React, Node, and MongoDB.
  • Enthusiasm for mentoring and sponsoring less-experienced engineers.

It would be a bonus if you had even one of the following:

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Nginx, Terraform, or Pulumi specifically.
  • Experience improving on-call and incident response processes for Engineering.

Compensation and Benefits

Our anticipated compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets, and the range below indicates the low end of the lowest-compensated market to the high end of the highest-compensated market. This position is eligible for new hire and ongoing grants of restricted stock units depending on employee and company performance. $142,000$152,000 USD

    Qualifications

    • Hands-on experience designing and delivering solutions using the Azure Data Analytics platform (Cortana Intelligence Platform) including Azure Storage, Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Azure Data Lake, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Stream Analytics
    • Direct experience in building data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Apache Spark (preferably Databricks).
    • Experience building data warehouse solutions using ETL / ELT tools such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), Talend, and Wherescape Red.
    • Experience with Azure Event Hub, IOT Hub, Apache Kafka, Nifi for use with streaming data / event-based data
    • Experience with other Open Source big data products eg Hadoop (incl. Hive, Pig, Impala)

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage a team (2) of Cloud Operations specialists in US
    • Will be tasked with serving as the primary point of technical escalation contact
    • You will be responsible for being the point of contact for any operational escalations within the organisation.
    • Ensure that the Incident management process is running as expected, and that the operations team is handling incidents in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Operations team will be responsible for the Incident management process, so need to ensure the process is running as expected.
    • Manage support tickets (changes, requests, incidents, etc.) and escalate to the appropriate resolution level.
    • Monitor alerts and follow their evolution, escalate as needed.
    • Manage cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, and OVH) and take care of the infrastructure backup and the backup checks.
    • Maintain Linux and Windows systems, network, and security software/equipment.
    • Apply security patches to the entire IT infrastructure.
    • Deploy new client projects and infrastructure based on established requirements.
    • Manage day-to-day infrastructure work and ensure that desktop computers are compliant with security policies.
    • Cultivate great co-worker and client relationships.
    • Available to work during weekends based on the team’s rotation schedule. (1 in 3 weekends)

    Technical Abilities:

    • Knowledge and experience working with cloud computing - e.g. Azure or AWS or GCP (Required)
    • Networking and firewall expertise - VLANs, Zone based firewalling, IPSec VPN, SSL VPN, URL filtering, IDPS (Required)
    • Proficiency in Windows, Office, and Active Directory is required
    • Infrastructure security experience - Patch and vulnerability management

    Scope Description

    Required Experience

    • Immense passion about doing the right thing to help Okta's technology stay ahead of its anticipated business growth
    • Solid technology chops in architecting, implementing, tuning and debugging some of the largest cloud deployments in the enterprise world
    • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent; master's preferred.
    • 5+ yrs of expansive programming experience in an object-oriented programming language like Java, especially in backend services. A superior understanding of multithreading, garbage collection, memory management.
    • 3+ yrs experience of working with MySQL or equivalent relational database systems. Experience with designing databases and fine tuning queries is a plus.
    • 3+ yrs experience developing, operating, optimizing and troubleshooting web services on Kubernetes. Experience with AWS EKS is a plus, so is experience with GCP.
    • Demonstrated experience of working with ReST and thorough understanding of its fundamentals. Knowledge of gRPC is a plus.
    • Experience with Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, Tomcat, AWS, Redis, and Docker
    • Knowledge of network security, authentication and authorization
    • Demonstrably followed best software engineering principles
