Every day, the world gets more digital thanks to tens of millions of developers building the future faster than ever. But with exponential growth comes exponential risk, as outnumbered security teams struggle to secure mountains of code. This is where Snyk (pronounced “sneak”) comes in. Snyk is a developer security platform that makes it easy for development teams to find, prioritize, and fix security vulnerabilities in code, dependencies, containers, and cloud infrastructure — and do it all right from the start. Snyk is on a mission to make the world a more secure place by empowering developers to develop fast and stay secure.
Our Opportunity
Are you passionate about cloud computing and cost governance? Do you want to work in the intersection between finance and technology? We seek an experienced Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team and spearhead technical cost visibility and optimization across multi-cloud and SaaS environments. You'll report to the Sr Director of Infrastructure Engineering, collaborate closely with the Sr Director of Product Management for Infrastructure, partner with a dedicated FinOps cross-functional group, and liaise with the FinOps Sr Director in Finance and Operations.
By the end of the first 30 days, you will have gained knowledge around the complexities and challenges related to FinOps at Snyk, including understanding resource usage across our tech ecosystem, current financial metrics around COGS and margins etc. By the end of the first 60 days, you will have strong opinions about how to solve challenges, helped define clear KPIs and actively be making changes and working with teams on baseline cost improvements and controls
You’ll Spend Your Time:
- FinOps Infrastructure Engineering:
- Design and implement automated cost management solutions leveraging Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform
- Build cost-aware CI/CD pipelines for deployments, integrating cost checks and optimization gates.
- Configure cloud provider native cost controls (AWS Budgets, GCP Quotas) and leverage advanced cost anomaly detection tools.
- Cloud Cost Visibility and Optimization:
- Identify major cost drivers of cloud spend
- Develop and maintain real-time dashboards and reports for cloud spend (AWS Cost Explorer, GCP Billing) and SaaS tool usage (Datadog Cost Management, Snowflake Usage Reports).
- Utilize cost allocation and chargeback models to drive cost ownership and accountability across engineering teams.
- Perform cloud resource tagging and cost categorization for granular cost analysis and optimization opportunities.
- Leverage cloud optimization tools to identify and prioritize cost saving initiatives.
- SaaS Tool Financial Management:
- Integrate SaaS cost data into FinOps dashboards and reports, enabling holistic cost visibility across cloud and SaaS environments.
- Partner with Product and Engineering teams to implement cost-effective SaaS usage policies and resource optimization strategies.
- Automate SaaS spend alerts and notifications to prevent cost overruns and promote responsible tool utilization.
What You’ll Need:
- Experience in engineering or technical operations, with increasing responsibilities in FinOps and Cloud governance
- In-depth expertise in public cloud (AWS, GCP)
- Experience with IaC tools and CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure automation
- Proficient in data analysis, visualization tools and scripting languages
