Backend Node.js Developer in Test

You’re a developer with a Computer Science background or similar, looking to get your foot on the ladder. You’d like to level up your skills and start working with a wide variety of applications and technologies, and it’d be amazing if you could see your work out there in the real world. You like problem solving and having a team with whom you can brainstorm simple solutions to complex problems. You want the freedom to work where you want, when you want, and with the kinds of projects you enjoy most.

What we are looking for:

  • A degree in Computer Science or similar
  • Basic Node.js comprehension and testing skills
  • Quick learner that is driven and ambitious
  • Willing to work with automation testing to get experience working with Node.js

Bonus points if you also have:

  • Understanding of Test Driven Development (TDD)
  • Experience with Git
  • An understanding of relational and NoSQL databases

If that sounds like you, read on. We’ve got a place for you at Bitovi.

Bitovi helps companies create better software and applications. We’re driven by the desire to provide value - to our clients, to the technology community, and to our incredible team.

Every day, we design and build a wide variety of high-profile applications. We discuss and design architectures, review code, and research new front-end technologies. We talk to our clients directly, guiding them through the process, identifying potential problems and unknowns, and tackling challenges.

We help one another freely. We keep a Slack channel called ask-help and it’s used constantly. We develop new skills, build better developer tools, and work on new types of projects regularly - and take the time to present at conferences, give trainings, and run meetups. We’re huge devotees of open source, and our community of developers is second to none.

Our fully remote team consists of about 80 developers and designers located around the US and Canada. We welcome diversity and non-traditional paths into the developer profession - we want the right person, not the right collection of tech keywords.

You can learn more about us with this short read: Hello Potential Bitovian

Develop. You’ll get to work on interesting projects in a culture that values quality over quantity and collaboration over cowboy coding. You’ll have time each week for a one-on-one with your team lead, daily standups and weekly scrum-based meetings, and protected time to work on research, presentations, articles, or other passion projects. The bulk of your day will be spent on development, and projects you might work on include:

  • Microservices and serverless architectures
  • A variety of Node.js application frameworks and tools
  • Relational, NoSQL, and in-memory data stores

Consult. You’ll meet with clients regularly to learn about their needs and update them on the progress of their projects.

Travel. Pre-Covid, our development team traveled to meet with our clients in person, and we’ll be doing so again once it’s safe to travel. Travel averages 3-5 days every 10-12 weeks, and we’ll always be working with your schedule.

Teach. You’ll have protected time each week to present at conferences, give trainings, plan and run meetups, create and maintain open source projects, and create various kinds of content in your area of expertise, with Bitovi’s full support.

You’ll fit in well at Bitovi if you are:

  • Interested in development best practices
  • Experienced in contributing to or using open source projects
  • Flexible enough to work well autonomously or as part of a larger team
  • Always developing new skills, trying out new technology, and testing new ideas
  • Comfortable working with clients directly
  • Equally at ease in a leadership or team role

First and foremost: you’ll get to be part of a supportive, talented, amazing team who supports and challenges one another to do their most exceptional work. You’ll get to contribute to and lead a diverse array of projects, expand your skills and stature in the tech community, and build a portfolio of work you’re passionate about and proud of.

You’ll also enjoy excellent benefits, including:

  • Competitive salary and annual bonus opportunity
  • Completely remote work with flexible hours
  • 401(k) matching
  • 4 weeks of paid vacation in addition to 7 paid holidays
  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Paid maternity and paternity leave
  • Biannual company retreats to places like Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Amelia Island (on hold during Covid, but definitely to return!)
  • Mini virtual retreats held quarterly during Covid

Write a resume and a thoughtful introduction that includes:

  • Why you’re interested in this role
  • Something you recently worked on and are proud of
  • A fun fact about yourself

Workit Spaces is hiring a Remote Software Engineer - mid level, senior and lead roles

        Company Description

We’re building a cloud based platform for eCommerce businesses -

SKUtopia integrates with eCommerce storefronts (Shopify, WooCommerce, etc) and manages orders, inventory tracking, warehousing, and distribution. We're also deploying Australia's first automated micro-fulfilment centre! Using robotics, computer vision, and great software we're giving eCommerce merchants the ability to compete on even footing against the likes of Amazon.

If you have spent your career wondering when you will ever get to apply Dijkstra's algorithm, Little's Law, combinatorial algorithms, and why you had to read "Introduction to Algorithms" for Computer Science when so far your entire career has been re-writing almost identical CRUD apps over and over, now you can stop wondering.

This is your chance to face some real challenges in a business where solving NP-Hard problems is your day to day and business critical, not just part of the interview process.

Right now, we’re scaling up the team and looking for Software Engineers to join us. You’ll need to have at least a few years of experience under your belt and be comfortable with our tech stack, but we’re keen to chat if you think we might be a good fit for each other.

        What we’re working with

We’re working with Node, React, TypeScript, GraphQL. We're using GCP for cloud, but most of the team had previous experience with AWS and have found it pretty easy to get up to speed.

There’s some work with C++ for the robotics in micro-fulfilment, and interesting data engineering and MLOps challenges, if you’re interested in exploring that.

Whilst it's a fast-paced, high-growth environment, we aren’t sacrificing quality and are committed to building things right. That means following best practices around TDD, CI/CD, etc

        How we work

We follow Scrum, with a daily stand up at 11.45 am (AEDT) and 2 week sprints. Most of the team work from home, and we trust you to manage your time - if you’re getting your work done and you’re most productive at 8pm, that’s fine by us. We are collaborative and communicative though, so if you need help, or can help someone else, then we expect you to reach out.

We keep track of what’s happening with Jira and Confluence, and use Slack and Google Meet to stay in touch, and try and limit unnecessary meetings.

We have a fortnightly all hands business update, and make sure we find opportunities to call out great work, and celebrate our wins.

If you’re in Sydney, you’re welcome to work from our (beautiful, dog friendly) office in Alexandria, otherwise WFH anywhere in Australia, or we can chat about coworking spaces if that’s what suits you best.

        Career progression

It’s really important to us that we take the time to understand your goals and give you an environment where you can learn, with clarity about what progression looks like (and how you can increase your salary!).

We make it really clear what you need to do to move up, for e.g. from a senior to a lead role, and we’ve got paths that give you opportunities to either stay technically hands on, progress into people leadership roles.

We’re forecasting serious growth in the business over the next couple of years, so we’re confident that there will be plenty of challenges and opportunities to develop your skills. It’s definitely not going to be boring!

        Recruitment process

If you’re keen to find out more, apply via the link or drop an email to recruiter  @

If you don’t have a CV to hand, a link to your LinkedIn profile or other online presence is absolutely fine.

You’ll have a quick chat with our recruitment team, followed by a technical interview (including live coding), and then a final interview that talks through your career history. It’s a two way process though, so we’ll take the time to tell you more about the role and team, and answer all your questions, and schedule additional chats if necessary.

        • Technically challenging role with a level of complexity that we don’t think you’ll get in many other places

        • Node.js, React.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, GCP

        • Sensible, trust first, approach to getting work done

        • Work from anywhere in Australia, or our office in Sydney

        • High growth environment where we aren’t sacrificing quality

        • Defined paths and plenty of opportunities for career progression

        • Ping us your CV/LinkedIn profile/whatever tells us enough about you to get the conversation started

          Blockchain development

Shopify has a new Blockchain team, it’s strategically important, and it’s growing.

gm frens. Shopify merchants are already selling NFTs on Shopify, and cryptocurrency payments have been possible for years, but now we have created a dedicated team to bring wallets and blockchains into commerce in a big way. The best brands already use Shopify for huge drops and flash sales of physical products, but what does this look like in a web3 world?

We’re going beyond NFT drops, into a world where web2 and web3 native tools help merchants, app developers and agencies create something new. We’re bringing the established world of physical commerce into the new world of crypto-native community, to help merchants and buyers play the infinite game of commerce. We love Ethereum, but we are also strongly committed to building in a way that lets merchants and app developers use many different blockchains to accept payments, sell NFTs, and power web3 applications.

This is a new team made up of experienced developers and product leaders who are deep into web3 and blockchain. Our team spans Europe and both coasts of North America.

What you’ll do as a Blockchain Software Engineer at Shopify:

          • Investigate new ways to bring what blockchains make possible into the world of commerce.

          • Provide our merchants with more options to accept payments.

          • Empower crafters of the future of digital products to be able to easily sell their items to a wide audience.

          • Build using web3 and blockchain tools and technologies.

          • Build features that bring the power of web3, cryptocurrency and blockchain to our web and mobile merchant or buyer experiences.

          • Build blockchain APIs and primitives for our third-party developers to use. We build platform-first, enabling the developer ecosystem to create things that we can’t even imagine.

          • Ship impactful products that will be used by our 1.7 million merchants in 175 countries, and the buyers that shop at their stores.

Experience and skills that are important for success in this role:

          • A proven track record of success in leading software development teams — strong technical mentorship is a must.

          • Experience writing smart contracts in Solidity or other languages for Ethereum or other blockchains.

          • Experience building web3 applications / dapps.

          • Experience using cryptocurrency wallets and DeFi applications.

          • A security-focused mindset and an understanding of the security issues that are unique to blockchain development.

          • Experience using technologies and frameworks like (but not limited to) some of our most-used languages - Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, Java/JEE, Node.js, PHP, Python, React or React Native, Golang, Kubernetes - or deep experience with any object-oriented language and relevant transferable technologies.

          • A passion for efficiency and collaboration, with a history of establishing great relationships across UX, Product Management, Product Marketing, Data, and SEO teams distributed across multiple time zones.

          • A commitment and drive for quality, technical excellence and results.

          • Curiosity and passion to constantly learn new things; Shopify changes fast, and we need the people who work here to be able to change and learn fast too.
