EveryAction is hiring a Remote Senior Product Designer, Mobilize

Mobilize is the volunteer recruitment and events management platform that connects mission-driven organizations and their supporters.

The Mobilize platform has helped 3,000 advocacy organizations, nonprofits, unions, and political campaigns like Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the Human Rights Campaign, AARP, and the Biden/Harris campaign sign up more than 4 million supporters for over 15 million actions. Mobilize was acquired in December 2020 by EveryAction, the leading technology platform for mission-driven organizations. This partnership is turbocharging our growth and creating many new opportunities to scale the team’s impact.

As a company, we are committed to building a workplace that reflects the diversity of volunteers and organizations that we exist to serve. We especially encourage women, people who identify as LGBTQ, people of color, and others who are underrepresented in the technology and nonprofit industries to apply.

Our team brings experience from the Biden-Harris, Warren, and Buttigieg Presidential campaigns;  industry-leading technology companies including Quora, Condé Nast, DataCamp, and Pinterest; and a range of non-profits and advocacy organizations.

About the role:

As a Senior Product Designeron a small team, you’ll be responsible for core aspects of the Mobilize product experience and have significant influence over Mobilize’s brand and visual identity. You’ll be responsible for turning complex flows into simple, intuitive digital experiences that will delight and motivate mission-driven volunteers and organizers.

You will:

  • Be involved at every step in the product development process –– working closely with product managers, engineers, customer success, and other designers to design and build great products that help campaigns, advocacy groups, and non-profits mobilize volunteers
  • Develop deep empathy for both organizers and supporters, learn about their workflows and needs, and design ways to help them achieve their goals
  • Use product intuition, data, and user research to improve and iterate on existing product surfaces, design scrappy growth experiments, and develop greenfield new product experiences
  • Be a good collaborative design partner to the engineering team, who will need your guidance and feedback to implement your designs
  • Help establish robust design principles and processes and evangelize them within the product and the company
  • Influence the look and feel of the Mobilize brand as applied to the product as well as to our social properties, marketing materials, and sales collateral

What you’ll need to succeed

  • You care deeply about empowering ordinary people for progressive causes. We’re a mission-driven company, and everything we do is guided by impact. At the end of the day, we’re here to make a difference.
  • You have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, for writing compelling microcopy, conveying concepts, synthesizing design feedback, and articulating the “why.”
  • You likely have four+ years of professional work experience, and ideally experience working with consumer-facing products. Note: this is not a requirement, it’s intended to give a rough expectation
  • You’re able to think about systems as a whole and design the user’s experience as they move across channels from online (web, email, SMS) to offline, and back again.
  • You’re able to work with a diverse toolkit, letting you move easily from writing, hand sketching, and quick whiteboarding to in-browser tools, CSS, Figma, and prototypes
  • You have a passion for inclusive and accessible design and stay on top of best practices
  • You’re self-motivated and willing to share responsibility for your team’s success and progress
  • You take initiative to raise and solve problems to make the team stronger going forward
  • You have an opinion but not an ego — you push yourself and your team towards the best possible outcomes, and embrace data and feedback
  • You’re flexible, like working at a fast but sustainable pace, and are able to anticipate change

Our Technology

We’re including this list only to be helpful and informative. We do not expect familiarity with any particular technology in the interview process or before starting the job.

  • We primarily use Figma for design and prototyping
  • Mobilize.Us uses a React frontend with Material components and Python (Django) on the backend
  • Our marketing site is powered by Webflow

A comprehensive set of benefits for employees includes:

  • 5 weeks PTO
  • Fully-funded healthcare
  • Dental and vision benefits
  • 401K with employer contribution
  • Parental leave policy
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Pet and life insurance
  • Generous employee assistance program

This role is remote within the US until further notice, with the option to start working in-person from the Mobilize office in NYC or EveryAction offices in DC or Boston. Any expectations and changes to the remote work policy will be communicated well in advance.

EveryAction believes a diverse, inclusive staff makes us a stronger company and better partner for our clients. Women, people of color, LGBTQ individuals, and members of other minority or marginalized groups are encouraged to apply. Our Vision

All students experience an excellent education that prepares them to contribute to their community, achieve economic security, and pursue their dreams.

Our Mission

We work shoulder to shoulder with educators to support great teaching and accelerate student learning. We focus on small systems, both districts and charters, and we work to ensure equitable access to great instruction for students in poverty, students of color, students learning English, and students with disabilities.

Our Core Values

Live Big-Hearted

We care deeply about ourselves, each other, our work, our partners, and the students we serve. We value the differences each other brings to the table because we know diversity of voice, thought, and experience makes us better. We operate joyfully and without ego, collectively focused on the broader good.

Choose Optimism

We believe that, with the right support, every student can succeed. We have the courage to lean into challenges and believe in the possibility of overcoming obstacles while holding a high bar for ourselves, partners, educators, and students. As we advance antiracist actions, our path may not be smooth, but we will walk it anyway because we have faith that the journey will make our team and our education system better.

Advance Antiracism

We create and uphold space for all team members, partners, and students so they are seen, valued, and heard. We lift the voices and experiences of Black, Latinx, Native, and Asian people. We actively look for and confront patterns and systems that cause inequitable harm in order to create more equitable outcomes within our organization and with partners. We embrace diverse expressions of excellence that make our team more inclusive and effective.

Be Honest

We are open, authentic, and truthful with ourselves, teammates, and partners. Our trust in each other and our work gives us the courage to lean into difficult conversations, put forth new ideas, and give and receive feedback through the lens of equity of voice and experience. We understand the intense and gripping nature of our work, so we name our needs to ensure we are practicing self-care and love within our beloved community.

Get Practical

We believe support should be thoughtful by meeting people, schools, and systems where they are. We leverage the voices, strengths and stories of families, educators, partners and teammates to find answers, because we know there isn’t a “one size fits all” solution to the challenges of our education system. We always look for ways to work smart, focus on the most relevant impact, and reduce friction to make it easier to take action while grounding our progress in equity.

Keep Learning

We know and love that we don’t yet have all the answers because we are nerds for learning, even when it’s hard or ambiguous. We actively pursue new knowledge, research, and evidence so that we can leverage the latest insights and best practices in our work, then we put that knowledge to work in partnership with our team, our partners, and the students and communities we serve. We respect the learning that springs from our own anti racist journeys, and vow to activate our knowledge in pursuit of equity and excellence.

How We Work

Instruction Partners is a nonprofit organization dedicated to excellent instruction for all students, with a focus on students in poverty, students with disabilities, students learning English, and students of color. We keep one foot in practicality and the other in evidence-based best practices, because we believe that leveraging high-quality, grade-level content and providing just-in-time supports will accelerate learning for all students.

Instruction Partners spends time getting to know the needs of the educators, leaders, and systems it serves, allowing the team to custom-build service plans to support partner goals. Partnerships include on-the-ground support, and partnership team members serve as thought partners to the school systems they serve, a team educators can reach out to and feel supported by.

Instruction Partners provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics. In addition to federal law requirements, Instruction Partners complies with applicable state and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment in every location in which the company has facilities. This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including recruiting, hiring, placement, promotion, termination, layoff, recall, transfer, leaves of absence, compensation, and training.

We’re on a mission to ignite a love of learning and a love of life by curating transformative literary experiences for every reader: anyone who dreams, anyone who wonders, of any age. There are some stories no child should live without and no adult should ever forget.

Literati is the fastest growing company in Arts + Literature in the United States, and the #5 fastest growing company in Texas. Lovingly referred to as Austin's "fiction factory" the company curates and fulfills over a million books per quarter.

Job Description

We are looking for a talented, down-to-earth Product Designer to work both on web products and mobile apps. This is a startup: You’ll enjoy donning many hats and work closely with our Engineering and Product leadership. You have strong design chops. You enjoy thinking deeply on product design decisions that can work at scale. You have an impeccable design sense, and a keen eye for detail and craft. Collaboration is in your DNA, but you aren’t afraid to prioritize, provide feedback, make decisions, and communicate. You’ll come in and make an immediate impact to our small (but mighty) Product team, and play a large role in representing our brand and mission.

Qualifications

WE’RE GOOD AT:
Bringing the fire. We are a startup, with all the fierce dedication and sparkling energy to accomplish great feats. Iron sharpens iron, and so we’ve refined our teams from only the strongest metals: open minds, bright ideas, and bold determination.

YOU’RE GOOD AT:

  • A Designer. You have an impeccable design sense, and a keen eye for detail and craft.
  • Passionate. Designing global products that are intuitive and bring joy and value to consumers’ lives floats your boat.
  • Data-Driven. You have an eye for elegant design, but know that there is value in leveraging data to drive design decisions.
  • Researcher. You are ready to partner with Product to conduct research that identifies areas for product opportunity and informs future designs.
  • Empathetic. You understand your customer’s needs, then skillfully translate them into specific interaction and UI designs.
  • Adaptable. You thrive on informed iteration in order to design experiences that work, and at scale.
  • A Creator. Building elegant solutions for a beautiful customer experience is in your genes.
  • Tool Agnostic. Sure you have preferences in order to be efficient, but you care more about what you're making than what you're using to make it.
  • A Collaborator. It’s in your DNA, but you aren’t afraid to prioritize, make decisions and communicate with authority.
  • A Communicator. You understand the importance of being able to both brainstorm with the wider team as well as articulate your individual design decisions.
  • Humble.  Very humble.  Ego?  Not your amigo.
  • Bookish. You live for the infinite ways in which books are a mirror for our humanity.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • An awe-inspiring portfolio, showcasing a foundation in typography, interaction and visual design, and ideation.
  • 5+ years of experience in an individual contributor role, on a Product Design team for desktop or mobile.
  • Expertise in standard design software such as Sketch, InVision, Adobe, Figma, and the like. Basic HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript skills are a plus.
  • A grasp of building usable, accessible, and modular designs that can scale to millions of users.
  • A record of applying your design skills to create product and business impact.
  • Bonus: Experience and a desire in conducting primary research such as field studies, interviews, surveys, and usability testing.
  • Bonus: A degree in a field related to UX research (e.g. HCI, product design, interaction design) or an equivalent form of relevant research training.
  • Previous eCommerce Mobile and Web design experience preferred.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY WILL LOOK LIKE:

  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering and Product on design needs throughout the different phases of our product as well to represent design, facilitate design discussions, and give feedback in product and planning.
  • Collaborate with Product to research, discover, and define future feature work and push the direction of our Kids product.
  • Work side-by-side with Engineering to ensure that implementation and user experience are always amazing.
  • Follow a user-centered, evidence-backed, design process, understanding real users’ motivations, behaviors and goals to define new features and refine existing ones.
  • Leverage and evolve our growing design system in order to design flows, prototypes, sketches, and hi-fidelity visuals for web and mobile.
  • Contribute in often rapid and impactful research across our customer lifecycle.
  • Support your design work using all available insights including quantitative data and site metrics, customer feedback, and usability findings.
  • Provide innovative, customer-centric, information and interaction design recommendations that contribute to an enhanced user experience.
  • Always advocate for the users' needs, and be able to tell our brand story through your work.

Additional Information

We seek people with drive and a touch of alchemy—and if that sounds like you, you should join us. Even if your experience isn’t a precise match for the role, passion and prowess will always win the day in our book. And if your career has taken you to some spectacular (or spectacularly strange) places? We love a good story.

At Literati, we value the power of reading for all: anyone who dreams, anyone who wonders, anyone of any age, from any background. We are dedicated to cultivating and preserving a culture of inclusion and connectedness that sees, reflects, welcomes, and celebrates the innovation and talent of a diverse array of people.

Think Company is looking for a Senior Visual Designer to join our team. As a member of this team, you should be well-versed in all aspects of experience design, and will drive the creation of elegant solutions for our client’s cutting-edge digital product lines, transforming ideas into a concrete UI with a polished aesthetic, prizing clarity of communication over visual flourish. • Evidence that you can create, extend, maintain, and champion a coherent digital product design system
  • Experience designing for complex systems or applications on multiple platforms, including mobile
  • A near-obsessive attention to design details with a focus on efficiency
  • Experience with and commitment to working as part of a collaborative team of designers, researchers, and content strategists that rely on a rigorous evidence-based design process
  • Pride in communicating your design ideas and process clearly
  • Mastery of your design tools—apps and techniques alike
  • A solid understanding of front-end development and technology
  • Familiarity with designing for accessibility and a desire to build these skills
  • Comfort establishing and maintaining relationships with co-workers and clients
  • Top-notch client consulting skills including the ability to present and defend ideas, formulate a case for an initiative, and quickly build trust as an advisor

What you’d do:

  • Lead the creation of beautiful, usable, animated interactive prototypes (using tools like Invision, Figma, Sketch, etc.) to communicate solutions to complex product design challenges
  • Establish scalable and comprehensive design systems for projects
  • Work closely with development teams to ensure ideas can be brought to life
  • Define problems and solve them using an evidence-based rationale
  • Synthesize research findings to develop a coherent project strategy
  • Collaborate closely with your project teams and clients to create compelling design solutions for complex products or systems
  • Think through UX challenges and create UI solutions that stand up to rigorous testing
  • Serve as a primary point of contact and valued consultant for our clients
  • Stay up to date on current themes, trends, and technologies in user interface and experience design

Bonus Points

  • Working knowledge of basic UX design and research principles and activities including user research methods, comparative/competitive analysis, persona creation, etc.
