Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Application Development, the Senior Manager of Application Development will lead a growing team of results-driven Tech Leads and Software Developers, advancing and expanding the SSENSE portfolio of applications within the Corporate Systems domain. The Corporate Systems team builds and supports the technologies that are used to manage Financial and HR related processes. The ideal candidate has the ability to see the big picture from both a technical and business perspective, leadership skills to motivate the team, and the foresight to strategize and drive the team in delivering corporate objectives. As a key player, the candidate will work to have an impact on our development and QA efforts, while influencing the product strategy and direction. The candidate’s role will be to enable collaboration between teams to solve complex and exciting challenges.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Application Development Activities (70%)
- Manage multiple development teams while leading them in becoming models of excellence to the rest of the organisation
- Manage and take accountability for the team’s timely delivery of the technical and functional roadmaps
- Partner with architects and technical leads: set the technical direction for the team, manage any technical escalations the technical leads are unable to answer, facilitate code reviews as needed, and communicate on the vision and the delivery planning, including supporting the senior leadership in defining the technical aspect of business cases to support business needs
- Govern and reach the expected technical quality standards results in the team’s deployment
- Understand both the dependencies faced by the teams, as well as the technical dependencies in an effort to orchestrate multi teams solution through different roles and functional ownerships
- Guide the team in the technical design and technical architecture of programming logic, in addition to facilitating technical exercises and pseudocoding to remove any potential technical barriers
- Suggest and support product teams with the XF teams necessary in driving the best outcome
- Work with product teams in crafting technical solutions; support and challenge the product perspective in negotiation and discussion of the functional goals
- Manage application development teams from initial inception of ideas to technical delivery
- Partner with the other development teams to design and implement best-in-class technical designs and approaches
- Partner with the Product Management team to ensure production schedules are adhered to and can be delivered upon
- Support in the establishment and review of technical and quality standards for the Technology team
- Oversee the technical and quality standards ensuring both are enforced throughout the software development lifecycle
- Manage and lead the day-to-day activities of the development teams within an Agile/Scrum environment
- Provide visibility on status of development, quality, operations, team velocity, and system performance
- Partner with Senior Leadership to identify and implement new initiatives to support the development activities (Cloud, DevOps, Performance Engineering, Architecture, etc.)
- Support Senior Leadership with the development of Business Cases from a Technical point-of-view, in order to support business needs
People Leadership & Development (30%)
- Drive the discussion and oversee the implementation of innovative teams practices at the level of the department
- Provide guidance and coaching to the teams so that they can become autonomous in their practices and deliveries and achieve their full potential
- Hold weekly one-on-ones, conduct performance reviews, analyse individual KPIs and assess promotion readiness to help each team member evolve in their roles
- Ensure team mobilisation by regularly gauging team spirit and implementing appropriate means to create a work environment that fosters healthy communication, collaboration and productivity
- Facilitate the day to day operations activities of the teams including agile ceremonies
- Lead initiatives and actionable strategies to facilitate the recruitment of top talent
- Provide leadership and guidance to hire, coach, motivate, lead, and retain a performance-driven team of Technical Leads and Software Developers to achieve their full potential
- Support with the planning of resources for new projects and the growth of the department
- Oversee the on-boarding and training programs for direct reports
Qualifications
- A minimum of 7 years experience managing teams to deliver complex applications, including 4 years relevant experience with Agile software development methodologies
- A minimum of 4 years experience with software development best practices, including coding standards and code reviews
- A minimum of 5 years experience in SAP ERP, SAP ECC6 or SAP S/4HANA implementation and or migration
- A minimum of 3 years experience in SAP middleware (PI/PO, CPI or BTP)
- A minimum of 3 years experience working in a service oriented architecture
- Familiarity with project management principles, PMP certificate an asset
- Experience with source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- Knowledge of relational and nonrelational databases, web technologies and web analytics tools
- Experience with AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or other PaaS based solutions
- Knowledge of ABAP SAP Programming Language
- Knowledge of a broad range of modern programming languages including PHP, Node.js, Java, and ReactJS/React-Native
- Knowledge of ecommerce and luxury business, an asset
